Food memories are closely linked with memories of family events. My extended family has a tradition of a pizza & game night, whenever we can all coordinate our schedules. It’s frequently take and bake, but if Grandma has coupons that make a delivery place cheaper that’s what we get. There are lots of picky eaters, but everyone can agree on pepperoni. 

I posted the question, “What do you think of when you think of pizza?” on my Facebook page, and some of the text generated by the responses is what I printed on the face of my slice. I had no idea my nephew made a heart shaped pepperoni pizza, with heart shaped pepperoni to woo his girlfriend, or that my friend’s father left their family for a time, to start a secret life in Italy. I’m happy that talking about a slice is effective as talking while you’re eating one to start a conversation.
